Drueding Center/Project Rainbow maintains 30 private apartments for resident families. Through intensive case management, family advocates help residents develop realistic goals and learn needed life and parenting skills. A key element of the program requires all women to move towards self-sufficiency by either working or participating in one or more of the following programs:

Employment training
Education
Drug/alcohol recovery
Mental health
Parenting and Life Skills programs
Following an average stay of ten months, mothers graduate to independent living and may opt to enroll in the After Care program.

After Care Program
This voluntary program is available to graduate families and provides case management, (goal setting, budgeting, time management, life skills and parenting), assistance with childcare and legal issues, social service referrals and ongoing access to services and events.

Contact between family advocates and graduates ranges from weekly visits to monthly telephone calls; family advocates also make visits to After Care participants' homes or mothers' worksites to ensure the continuation of needed services and progress toward independent living arrangements and livable wage employment.

Breaking the cycle of dependency is Drueding Center/Project Rainbow's primary goal, and long-term support services are the key to success in this area. And although HUD subsidies only provide payment for up to six months of after care following graduation, Drueding Center/Project Rainbow continues to offer these crucial services for up to seven years.
