When to choose hospice care

Hospice

Deciding on hospice care can be a tremendous struggle for those whose loved ones are nearing the end of their journey. The decision to choose hospice should be made after an informed discussion with the physician. If the patient is not of clear mind, family members need to remain mindful and respectful to the individual's own feelings.

It is important to understand that hospice care is reserved for those who are terminally ill. In addition, patients must have a caregiver able and willing to provide in-home support.

When families need a break or "respite" from the duties of caregiving, hospice patients may be admitted to the Inpatient Hospice Unit at St. Joseph's Manor for up to five days, depending on insurance coverage
